Information for Student/Associate Members of ACAud
A student may apply for Student Membership of ACAud once they have documented evidence of enrolment in an approved course of study at an Australian tertiary education facility. (At present this is the Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation or Graduate Certificate or higher in Audiometry from an Australian university.) A student is not required to pay the application fee (at present $230.00) usually applicable to new Memberships.
If a Student Member is having difficulty in obtaining a supervisor, ACAud will, upon request, assist by placing an advertisement in the next issue of the Accord Magazine free of charge or on the ACAud website.
When a student’s studies are complete they will no longer be entitled to Student Membership Status. It is the Member’s responsibility to notify ACAud in writing when their studies are complete and when they require to make a change to their Membership Status.
A Student or Affiliate Member may request in writing to upgrade their membership to that of Associate Member. They should include with their application a copy or transcript of their Diploma of Hearing Device Prescription and Evaluation or Graduation Certificate from an Australian university for either undergraduate or graduate degree in Audiology.
Associate Membership is contingent upon the submission of a supervisory plan in the correct format and such plan subsequently being approved by ACAud. An Associate Member must remain under an ACAud Approved Supervision Plan. A Supervisory Kit containing documentation for both supervisor and Associate to complete will be forwarded to the Associate in order to embark on the two year supervisory period. Supervision outside of an ACAud Approved Plan will not be recognized. This plan is to be submitted to ACAud for written approval. If the supervisor is not a Member of ACAud he/she will need to sign an ACAud Code of Ethics (Members have already signed this document). Please note that the supervisory period may be lengthened but is not able to be shortened except under exceptional circumstances as outlined in the Constitution and By-Laws. The appropriate membership fees will apply. An Associate must have a letter from ACAud accepting the plan and stating the date from which it is to commence. If such a letter is not received within approximately one month of submitting the request, the Member should contact the Secretariat immediately.
If at any time an Associate wishes to change or add an additional supervisor they must submit a resignation from the exiting supervisor plus a new supervisory plan to ACAud for written approval.
For the year commencing 1st July 2010 to 30th June 2011 there is a requirement for Student Members to attain 15 CEP Points per year. Associate Members must attain 30 CEP Points plus submit quarterly supervisory reports, including log books, jointly signed/initialled with their supervisor for the quarters Jan to March, April to June, July to Sept and Oct to Dec each year plus an additional final report just prior to exam. ACAud is happy to provide assistance to new supervisors or supervisees in preparing the initial reports.
If a Student Member does not have the prerequisites to progress to Associate Membership they may apply for Affiliate Membership until such time as they are ready to progress to Associate Membership. The appropriate membership fees will apply.
On completion of the supervisory period the supervisor should write to ACAud stating that the Associate has completed the supervision and in the supervisor’s opinion the Associate is ready to sit the ACAud Examination for Ordinary Membership. An Exam Pack is available for the Associate preparing for exam. The Associate should make written application to sit the examination and enclose a payment of the relevant fee. This fee is non-refundable except where, upon application, permission to sit is refused by ACAud. On successful completion of the examination and fulfilment of all requirements, a candidate may be eligible for Ordinary Membership. The appropriate membership fees will apply.
At this time the examination fee is $860.00 and the examination is held twice yearly in Sydney and in Brisbane.
Progression to various levels of membership is not automatic and will occur only if the various provisions of the Constitution, By-Laws and its Appendices are met.
The information supplied is subject to change and should be checked from time to time to ensure that it remains current.
